I had planned to hound the postie for days waiting for this package to arrive. Id even devised a series of booby traps and intricate blueprints had been created, but when i arrived at work this morning, it was perched on me doorstep.

I was a little bit gutted that i cant see my plans through , but after opening the box that soon dissapated, as i was greeted with Cam o Connells latest works- a series of framed intricate collages- very cool.

So, i know most of you bought a lotto ticket last weekend, I did and I never buy them. I won $70 bucks off it which is going to the cocktail fund, but as for the rest if you - I've got something with far better odds.

Its called a RAFFLE. Little bit old school- I know, but I swear your odds are better than lotto ( this is largely based on the increase of people leaving town at this time of year).

Here's the deal the choice fullas at RVCA have thrown us $500 worth of gear and we are raffling it off- yup the old school write your name on a ticket type gig. All 6 of my friends have entered so far and we need more so flick us an email or call us and get cha self in the draw.

Oh and all the proceeds go toward the Wanaka skate park extension!!!

I'd like to say im typing this from the sands of Rarotonga, but not quite. Instead I'm sitting in an airport hotel with a view of the industrial area. I thought I better upload something whilst I still have a reliable internet connection. We had the opening for the "It's Been Done" exhibition on Saturday. I just wanted to say thank you to everyone that came along and supported and also a BIG thanks to the artists that managed to get their work in.

I know this was an idea that took some time to come to fruition and I really appreciate the effort you went to to support both The Good Room and the Wanaka skate park extension fundraising. You're a good sort. Here are some quick images if you didnt make it. See ya when i get back!!

We had a spring spruce at the shop and now its all fresh and clean. Check it.

So we cleaned the shop out last wednesday night to exhibit Tim Zimmerman's photos. They came out amazing, and the shop transformed into the coolest gallery in town. Made me wish i could have my cake and eat it too. Anyways, there are still some prints to be sold, but they wont last.

Also we have new stock from Stolen Girlfriends Club, Blak Basics, Juliette Hogan and RVCA. There is a bit of a sale on winter stock too.

Thats three reasons you should come visit, Dont make me come up with more.

And so it was, the Plauge exhibition opening night. Friday night was a heck of a banger for most of us in the queenstown lakes region. The boards look great, the prints came out beautiful, so all that was left was for us to enjoy it.

Im tired , so i suspect my witty sarcasm may be lost for the time being. Its been a cool month, its been fun, its been scary and a little stressful. However ive managed to get some fun stuff out there, in here. New this month has been deliveries from Lonely Hearts, Stolen Girlfriends Club, Blak Basics and Shakuhachi. Ive also managed to track down some fun stuff, Like cameras from the lomographic society, More magazines and even a couple of fun books.

The jewellery cabinet is full with rad charm necklaces from Zoe Mou, new peices from Stolen Girlfriends Club and sunnies from AM Eyewear.

All we need now is YOU.

ITS BEEN DONE

An exhibition in the works.

"Its been done" is an art exhibition planned for the end of 2008 (most likely Sept) with a dash of community spirit.

We hope to ask as many artists and creative types to donate a little of their time and effort to a good cause- the extension of the Wanaka Skate park.

Its aptly named, because, lets be honest people, painting on skateboards isn’t new, and well, neither is fundraising. Doesn’t mean it cant still be fun.

There aren’t too many restrictions, the biggest one being all artwork must be on USED skateboards, they can be broken, in pieces or in good condition we only ask that they are used in keeping with the theme of the exhibition, saving the planet, and also creating a bit more of a challenging medium to work with.

I am asking as many artists as possible, and am happy with this email being forwarded to anyone who might be interested, it’s a come one come all situation, the only hitch is that all boards are donated- unfortunately there can be no monetary benefit for the artist- but lets not forget the glory and experience!!

All the boards will be hung and exhibited in The Good Room. There will be an exhibition opening night, where all decks will be sold for the same price- most likely around the $50-60 dollar mark, so that they are attainable to both the young and old, you know we are big on accessible art here at The Good Room.

All proceeds will go straight to the Wanaka skate park, I intend to get as much sponsorship as possible to assist, so if you are someone who may be interested in sponsoring the event, please don’t hesitate to get in touch too!

If you need any decks to work on- please contact me also, as we have been gathering as many used decks as possible since this idea was just a seed, purely for this purpose.

This is just the first info sheet to get the word out there and get people excited and interested, Its been an idea in my head for too long now. There is plenty of time, and there may be a few changes along the road, but I think you get the idea for now.

The Good NEW Good Room

Its a new day...a new week and a new Good Room! Well kinda new anyway, i have changed it around a bit, built some furniture ( not me personally... I mean can you imagine my hammer and nail skills) and we even did a dash of painting.
My brother and Mum came down for a visit, so they were immediately roped into late night painting and floor scrubbing, I honestly dont know what i would have done without their help, so this is their internet shout out!!
Anyway, now its newish.. and i like it, there are still some improvements to be made, but the general gist is on its way. We have new WeSc in store today, new Something, Pomo and Schwipe too- so get in quick eh.. or else.

Okay, its time to take the for Sale sign down once and for all. Its also time for everyone to breath a sigh of relief.... The Good Room shall reign once more!! Im just waitng for the SALE sash to arrive so i can wear it around every where like i won Miss Te Puke, 1985 ( I was actually runner up, and it still hurts)
So here,s how it works, Haley, of manageress fame shall take over The reigns in Feb 08, Jane will most likely be MIA from there onwards, those feet of hers- they just love to fly!! No but seriously, you wont notice any major changes, since haley has been a loving part of the place since inception, she will continue the legacy and keep all yall happy chaps!!

Well Wanaka, the cold has arrived and the snow is coming.We like this time of year as our friend count doubles in size and our smiles grow even bigger.The shop is looking fab and chocka full of goodness.Due this week is more winter Schwipe and a dash of Lonely Hearts Club.

Also , speaking of friends, our friend Cam O Connell is coming back and hes bringing a bunch of artworks to spruce up the walls. Check back for the opening night details.Choice bro.

Well.Phewf.Its been over a month since we last posted on here. Its been a busy month. The shop is leterally overflowing with new stock! We have new lonely hearts club,Maw, Perks and Mini, Ruby,Scwhipe ,Love lies bleeding,Sylvester, deb Sweeney and Misty Lang.
The majority of this stock arrived while Jane and Haley were on a working holiday on melbourne. We left the shop in the capable hands of Erica and Fran - big thanks to you ladies for holding it down while we checked out what melbourne had on offer.
Its such an easy city to slip into. Our time was split between shopping ( officially referred to in our business as "scouting") eating,drinking and watching fashion shows.
We met some of our suppliers and also got some new ones.Highlights were "Dont come"the Schwipe store/gallery.Its hard to find but totally worth the hassle and a must visit. Also the Someday store in Curtin house is on the list as is Some Buddy loves you on smith st.I wont bore you with the rest of our misadventures but be sure to put melbs on the "To do"list.
On our way back to Wanaka we spent a night in Dunedin at the ID fashion show. The show went really well and we were so proud to see the girls from Love lies bleeding and Keucke shine on the runway!
But now we are back to the glowing good room...it does actually glow- you should come see the new lights.There is work to be done and clothing to be sold.

There is nothing better than arriving at work in the morning to find big boxes of new seasons stock.Dont get too excited because it hasnt started to happen yet - but it will- oh yes it will. Any day now- new shit is going to roll in and you can smell the excitement.

But we do have SOME new stuff....we are now selling SPOKE magazine...if you havent heard of it - its a tight little mountain biking magazine produced by the clever folk at Manual Magazine...speaking of them we also got some rad tee shirts from both Spoke and Manual to support the cause.

Also the ksubi sunnies that we been waiting for are in store- SO hot right now.Come down and see us...go on you know you want to.

Its a New year

Well........and so it is a new year has begun. We have had a super duper holiday time here at the shop, it has been really busy and even a dash of sun has appeared. The alley way survived new years with a few scratches and stains on its concrete.Both Jane and I also survived much the same and NO we did not open on new years day.Please dont touch the exhibition has been going really well- there are new works from Pyropip,Haley Ashby and also Mark Alsweiler.I will try to get a few pics up in the next few days. New stock should start arriving in a few weeks, so expect updates of some form ....oh the pressure.Any hoo... we hope that your year has been a ripper so far and the best it yet to come!
